This show is pure, unadulterated mecha porn. Totally awesome Gundam designs by the likes of Shoji Kawamori and Hajime Katoki, extremely detailed battle choreography and animation, and tons of scenes of insane hot-blooded action.
So while the story and characters may be bland, I think you're missing the point if you watch the series for those.
