I think a good chunk of the reason I don't hate moon moon is because everyone says how bad it is, so I was expecting terrible things. Also, there are so many rationalizations floating around, that it almost makes sense. Pretty much, it wasn't as bad as I expected, and I already knew some explanations before I watched it.
Space hippies decide to close themselves off from the rest of the Earth-sphere with disastrous results. Accident happens in very early UC, since the EF is just the UN, but even more corrupt, they don't do anything. Or Zeon gasses the colony, but not enough to kill them, only to cause brain damage. I like all of those proposals.
