Actually I thought they did a decent job trying to incorporate UBW elements, but they really fucked up with trying to add HF elements in the ridiculous Caster arc.
And that's not what screwed it up anyway. What screwed it up was the lame and flat directing, the fact that they screwed up Shirou's denial of the Holy Grail and Sabers backstory (probably the only two good things about the entire route, other than Realta Nua's Last Episode) and the ridiculous dragon-sex scene.
