If that happened OMG... I would have died .... I mean yeah it would have left me feeling angry with the ending and all but I wouldn't have been able to take the trauma.... if the writer wanted us to feel that way... i think i have had a taste of it from the anime... that's good enough for me... I just can't take too much of this ...

If you think about it, this is precisely how Hikaru felt when Sai left him. The manga just ended "suddenly", without much warning. Readers were "outraged", much as Hikaru was feeling when Sai just disappeared and he couldn't find Sai anywhere. All of a sudden, there was no more Hikaru no Go manga. Readers = Hikaru.
