That... looks suspiciously like a con.
I know it wasn't Horo's intention - she never wanted anything more than food and drink. And if Amati had kept it at that, more power to him. Considering he got the pleasure of her company, I'd have said he'd gotten ahead, even with the scarf and die thrown in.
But, well, making a guy fall for her, telling him about a large debt, convincing him to repay it for her, and leaving with her "creditor" - we're heading dangerously close to con games...
I don't think Amati will be in that much trouble after he pays Lawrence. He'll still have a lot a credit, and his talent as a merchant that built him up from runaway to big fish merchant in a mere three years. What he'll be short on will be cash. And yes, his assets will probably be seriously diminished. But he considering his rise, I don't think he'd have much trouble recovering.
