the thing is that "it isn"t that bad".
The issue is the quality of this episode is extremeley unbalanced.
While the most part of this episode is top nocht, we have MANY still shot with UGLY character design. Pay attention with the "pause" moments, and you can see the limbs horribly done (especially satoko around 10:28)

like Mr Zombie said, episode 12 was the budget episode, so having a "2/3 top nocht" episode for such episode is really annoying.

Either way, a person who wasn't familiar with it probably would be thinking the same thing... I really though Rika, of all of the deaths, should've been more... significant. They didn't need to show any gore if that was the problem, just at least some sign of shock from pain in Rika's eyes, like a very blurry image, make Takano howling with laughter and then finally passing out from the shock and dying.

Because her death is already known by any watcher and it doesn't matter. And since we know she is conscious, we can imagine the pain. Also, that scene doesn't mean Takano only did that. This just serves the fact that "she did it". much like for the yamainu in Yakusamashi.
The importance of this scene is rather Rika resolution to burn the face of the culprit, after all this struggle. Her death is meaningless compared the joined forces she has with her friends AND hanyuu.
