Well they did manage to handle the Dam Situation. Though a full scale genocide, is on a different scale in terms of conflict.
I think the most important thing if they can't win in this world is Rika finding out everything that's going on. It's hard enough to do anything if she doesn't have the information available. Maybe the only chance they've got is by arming up the village and turning this into a serious battle.
