Getting the true ending isn't really all that dependant on the amount of Rin points you have. It's mostly dependant on the amount of Saber points you don't have.

Yeah there is a way. While some of the choices to force a normal end only appear after already getting the true end, there is also a specific sequence of choices that also leads to the normal end....
