Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp anime has been announced

Plot:

Dr. Song Jihyun is considered a prodigy among Korean surgeons, known for her skill in saving patients no matter their condition. In her past life as Elise de Clorance, the ill-mannered wife of the emperor, her jealousy and greed had led to the loss of her loved ones and—ultimately—her death. For that reason, she vowed to now save lives instead of destroying them.

After a fatal plane crash, Elise finds herself once again in her former body. With her previous knowledge of modern medicine and now a chance at mending her mistakes, she is determined to contribute to the empire as a medic in this life. But will Elise be able to avoid her engagement to Prince Linden de Romanoff, the man she had loved to the point of her own demise?

Isn't this just a bit of a riff on Ascendance of a Bookworm...

Yet...I'm not entirely dismissing it because I was never truly able to get into Bookworm...

No, it's closer to the Otome Villainess stories. She was the villainess archetype who got executed as a Queen, reincarnated into our world with her memories and devoted herself to the study of medicine to atone, until a plane accident killed her. Then she woke back up in her previous life at 16 years old and decided to give up on the Prince in order to become a Doctor. Not because he was a bad guy, but because she basically ruined his life and didn't want to drag him down a second time.

Think those stories like the Villainess Lives Twice that basically shows what happens when a bad person sees the end result of their actions and gets a second chance at doing things over. It was actually an entertaining of a read from my perspective, but I lost track of it a while ago.

I wonder why they chose to give this one an animation though?

Her Japanese design was pretty nice...but it's nice to see your original family again :).

Seems like she's convinced she can't be with the man she loves because of her experience in her original life...but I don't think her other male suitors will hold her heart :upset:,

How to call this genre variation that's getting increasingly common? Revert-Isekai? Boomerang-Isekai?

The animation seems pretty average, which is a bit worrisome. That being said I am curious, will give this a go.

I knew Otome Isekai's were getting more common, but this is probably one of the first Boomerang-Isekai I've heard of back when I read it.

Honestly I'm just reminded of 7th Loop which is airing in the same season and features some of the same all-star cast in this show :heh:.

Oh hey, it's Sei! Wait, no, it's Yui Ishikawa voicing another Japanese cutie named Aoi! And she even sings the OP! Aoi is great with kids and has a bit of a sweet tooth, too bad she gets caught up in a plane crash :uhoh:.

The OP is pretty nice and fitting for this type of series, showing Aoi back as Elise and her relationship with the people around her, especially her love interest. It also makes Elise seem like quite the cute go-getter ;).

Aoi really had everything going for her. A famous master surgeon with a 100% success rate, a great and fun gal pal in Shouko, a cute Kouhai who looks up to her and worships her hand...okay, sure she's nicknamed a "monster doctor" but she's also called the "Surgeon Queen!" And she's doing all she can to save others and make sure no family has to lose a loved one :nod:!

And Aoi is focused on this because once-upon-a-time she died a Villainess...as Elise, an Empress who was burned at the stake for her perceived crimes and blamed for the death of her family, with apparently the man she loved leading her execution. In a fit of karma she reincarnates as a Japanese orphan with no loving family or trappings of nobility, but rather than wallow in misery she decides instead to focus on becoming a doctor and helping people to make up for her sins :smile:!

Dang, somebody in Germany's not getting their open heart surgery. I feel like Aoi is probably going to feel guilty about that :uhoh:.

Aoi actually survived the plane crash! And her first priority is saving all the people on the plane! The irony being that she succeeds at it but in focusing on others she missed her own grievous injury to the point where she dramatically falls off the plane while dying just as the rescue team arrived. She gave her second life up for the sake of others :(.

But I guess Aoi's good karma actually paid back her sins because in answer to her last wish to see the people she loved again, she is reverse reincarnated BACK to being Elise. Complete with her pet owl Pallas! No, seriously, she has a pet owl :eek:!

So Elise was so bad that her maid Mary was scared of her and she was confined to her room for some reason. But now Elise is a new person and ready to be better, down to telling her family she loves them for the first time :kisskiss:!

The ED is pretty simple yet pretty with Elise walking across the desert but finding life and beauty in-spite of it :D.

Well, the intro was a bit long, but I'll see how they handle the fantasy aspect of it from now. Two more episodes.

I rather like it, though I've also liked a couple of similar series like Raeliana. I have a thing for feisty heroines, and she'll have her work cut out for her here. I assume at some point they'll have to deal with the whole "introducing 21st century medicine to medieval times" problem. Still, in a pretty sparse season, I'll watch another.

Not sure what to expect here... Tearmoon Anatomy? Was the MC an actual villainess and/or megabitch in her first life though? That part was kind of confusing.

Its intriguing enough to stick with for a couple more episodes. Though seeing doors fly off planes IRL was already plenty of nightmare fuel for the month, I didn't need a plane crash (reverse?) isekai premise.

Yeah, I'm getting Pride Royal Ivy vibes from how she was the first go-around especially since she ended up being an evil Empress (assuming the stuff that got her killed was her fault, though it doesn't seem like she planned on getting her family killed).

They definitely spent too long on "Tanaka Aoi"...

I've come across a few re-reverse isekai in Korean webtoons, although the ones I read used it as a plot twist/development instead of setup as seen here.
