Finally. Now to reiterate what I believe I may have said many a year ago, though if I didn't say it I was certainly thinking it:

I can accept if this sequel doesn't turn out very good. I just want some frickin' closure because Rebellion's ending felt like it went out of its way to be as unsatisfying as possible. (And before anyone starts trying to explain to me how it makes perfect narrative sense, MY PROBLEM WITH IT WAS WITH THE PRESENTATION. The way every scene was framed, the way the dialogue was written, the music they chose to use... All of it just made the entire final stretch feel like set-up to a new story. Not at all helped by how everything had this heavy air of unease over it yet they didn't actually show anything overtly bad about the Homuverse, they just... kept vaguely alluding to how this was a Bad Thing.)

...That said if this movie ends on another cliffhanger and this leads into like another series or something I will be most annoyed.

Honestly not surprised. Rebellion did feel a bit like it was setting up sequels for a series that didn't need them. Narratively the show as done, even Rebellion was already pushing it. They had to rollback the achievements, had to make Homura's tragedy into a failure and not a win, just to get those movies out the door. It always felt like they were milking a cow so I'm not at all surprised to see it continued. I'm just surprised it took this long.

Anyway, as the sucker I am, I'll probably still watch it. But I'll complain along the way :heh:

Butcher finally got off his ass and went back to settle 10 year old stuff lol

(inb4 Madoka becomes Evangelion V2 lmao)

Endscape 2021-04-25 07:38

After the end of Rebellion, I figured we'd get more entries, I'm just surprised it took so long. I see they brought back most of the original staff, perhaps that's the reason why?

blakstealth 2021-04-25 09:30

I'm so freakin ready. Ugh, can't wait!

Here's the trailer:

So apparently, the aniplex youtube channel has been uploading OPs and EDs of the series in the past month. These videos seem to be watchable from any region, but the channel itself seems to be region-locked.

Even if they make her the villain, Homura still did nothing wrong. :eyespin:

Definitely hyped but kind of surprised they're doing a movie before Magica Gaiden S2.

Kanon 2021-04-25 12:05

It was always a matter of time. Hopefully we'll get a conclusive ending to the story this time.

I'm pretty sure Gaiden S2 will appear before the movie seeing how the latter doesn't even have an announced release date yet

I get the feeling it's not a sequel to Rebellion. It seems related to Walpurgis which shouldn't exist in the Homuverse.

Just a guess. I could be wrong. We'll see.

Dynamic tag cannot be rendered. (PrintableThread)

Kanon 2023-09-10 06:27

Hmm, well, can't really tell much from that trailer. Nice to see the girls again anyway.

blakstealth 2023-09-10 07:15

Ugh, the soundtrack is incredible as always.

Technically, the JP trailer gives a Winter 2024 release date. The ENG trailer only says Coming Soon.

There will probably be some screenings but it'll probably be a wait if you can't get to one of those. I'm cautiously optimistic but still kinda worried it'll disappoint. We'll see I suppose.

Telephone kinda reminds me of classic ef Shaft. Hopefully they're back but I'm not sure what to make of the Kizumonogatari rehash they also announced.

I didn't see the three movies when they came out in theaters, so I think this condensed version is more appealing to me.
