MPA Lawyers Are Trying to Shut Down Nyaa.si

IMO this has all the footprints of sony lawyers, trying to cement supremacy as their deal for buying crunchyroll seems to be going according to plan.

Who, other than Netflix and Amazon have anything to do with anime in the MPA?

Anyway, Nyaa won't die that easily

Hard to care after Horriblesubs went down and it made feck all difference. If one torrent aggregator dies, another will pop up to replace. That's how it's always gone. I mean we're discussing this on what used to be a torrent aggregator so it just goes to show how pointless this all is.

But hey, if the MPA wants to waste money on a futile endeavour then why not?

A decade ago I would have agreed on the futility of trying to push around a torrent aggregator. But TBT nowadays anime torrenting is a niche, most people either watch it legally or illegaly on streaming sites, it seemms like it is either too much hassle or too complicated for people to download videos to their hard disks nowadays. So they might succeed and people might not even notice this is no longer an option until streaming platforms start to increase their monthly fees.

Tell that to people outside the West. Unless their content access problem is solved, there will always be people willing to keep Nyaa alive. More irony in that the most likely one in the MPA behind this is the region locked and expensive Netflix

Not to mention many people use Nyaa for the Sukebei part. So that die hard community will also not let it disappear....No business the MPA has with that unless they want to associate themselves with 18+ stuff.

Honestly it's quite dumb that one can import eroge direct from Japan far easier than watching anime thanks to the region locking so Netflix and co have only themselves to blame.

Like Cosmic said, this pretty much only apply to US, and a very lower degree in EU, If anything, Horriblesubs dead actually not only sprout a few more rip sites instead of HS monopoly than in the past, but actually bring back a portions of Fansubbing.

But TBH, I also have the same question after reading the comment in the article as well, does the MPA actually have any juridictions in this ?? consider that nyaa doesn't actually based in US.
