Magia Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Gaiden is getting a TV anime adaptation. Coming for 2019.

Quote:

The game's story, a spinoff of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime, takes place in the burgeoning city of Kamihama. Guided by a strange power, magical girls gather in this town and battle with a new power drawn from witches. Iroha Tamaki arrives in this town and joins other magical girls to search for her missing younger sister Ui. Before long, Homura Akemi also arrives in the town. "If I can understand the mystery of this town, maybe I can save Kaname."

I am so glad we are getting MagiReco and not Rebellion sequel. I think Rebellion ended off so perfectly. Hopefully this is better than Fate/Extra LE if we are going with the same director. I am super thrilled even tho I know this is an obv cash grab. But hey why can't studios get some money every now and then.

I disagree. If Rebellion is to be the ending of the franchise, the franchise should stay dead. But hey, if people want a Madoka version of the Fate franchise I guess wish granted, because if this is successful (and it probably will be because adorable loli waifus) they'll just keep cranking them out.

Be careful what you wish for, is all I'm saying.

My interpretation is that they actually would like to continue after Rebellion but they don't know how to. Urobuchi is probably not interested in writing Madoka anymore and honestly no one else can do it.

So the only way out for the producers is to green-light spin-offs.

Just downloaded the mobile game today. The game plays the same as Fate: Grand Order which is a little disappointing I was wondering if they'd do something different with this one. Heres hoping the anime isn't a let down as well.

The actual series they used as an example of what they want to achieve with the madoka franchise is gundam, not fate.

There's still no thread for episode 3 so I'll just post here.

The girl's transformations sequences were all amazing, especially Yachiyo and Momoko's. The mystery received more build up, but so far the show kind of seems to be lacking something compared to Madoka.

Spoiler for episode 3 ending:

Mai Nakahara's voice doesn't seem to fit her character, she sounds way too old

I love Mai Nakahara but I thought the same. I wonder if it's intentional or if she can't do younger voices like she used to. I hadn't heard her in quite some time.

Honestly, a lot of voices in this sound weird compared to my impression from the game. Not sure if it's just a disconnect from them being in motion, a lot of lines compared to the few the game has, or if they're actually being voiced at a different pitch/tone.

Mami sounded better this week to me at least.

Question regarding the timeline again: So is this supposed to be in one of the earlier iterations of Homuras retries or set after Rebellion in the changed world?

maximilianjenus 2020-02-19 10:29

It has not been revealed yet. But because witches are a concept it is most likely a random homura iteration. It could also be a no-anthropic iteration, meaning that it does nto belong to the timeline of iterations where homura fights to save madoka, but I think they have never done one of those that is not comedy.

It's set in a separate universe.

So the MagiReco game got pulled from it's NA version. How's it doing in JP? I would hope it's faring far better there since it's a technically very well made game
