Dungeon Meshi (Delicious in Dungeon)

How long I've been waiting to create this thread. How long...

Source is quite reliable, even if this isn't theoretically "official" yet:

I'm almost without words. And this is me we're talking about!

Honestly I'd almost given up hope - it should logically have happened years ago. A long time coming doesn't even begin to cover it.

Great news!!!!

ramlaen 2022-03-14 16:36

Fantastic.

Long suspected after that Trigger ad.

grecefar 2022-03-14 17:36

I was always interested in this, glad there is an anime.

Wandering Soul 2022-03-15 21:28

Heard good things about this one, so color me intrested.

Kafriel 2022-03-19 01:35

Totally saw it coming. This is, after all, the pinnacle of dungeon crawling stories. Plus this year has already been crazy with releases :)

Guardian Enzo 2022-08-02 16:07

Looks like the long-awaited announcement on this may finally be close, according to twitter sources.

Guardian Enzo 2022-08-09 02:48

One of the most long-overdue moments in anime may finally be imminent.

Tell me Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou has a series announcement and then maybe I'd agree. We had to wait nearly twenty years for an official English-language release of the YKK manga.

Guardian Enzo 2022-08-09 05:05

I did say "one of", you know...

And let's be honest - there's no compelling commercial imperative for YKK to get an anime now. Arguably the greatest manga ever written you say? Agreed - but that and ¥360 gets you a short drip at Japan Starbucks. The manga has been finished for decades and isn't going to have a resurgence in sales because of an anime or anything else.

Dungeon Meshi is currently running, a critical darling, and a big commercial hit. It's inexplicable it hasn't gotten an anime already. Making this one of the most overdue announcements in anime.

Guardian Enzo 2022-08-09 05:13

And confirmed.

Edit: It's Trigger. Not a huge surprise given they did the animated promo video.

So, the Anime would be like this?
Dynamic tag cannot be rendered. (PrintableThread)
Wouldn't really be that bad.

Looks interesting. Any plot summary? They're hunting monsters to make meals, to feed monsters?

You can't adequately describe Dungeon Meshi in summary. It's unique. Dining on monsters is part of it - the MC is a gourmand with a taste for the weird and one of the party is a master chef. But it's also the interplay among the large cast, the odd mechanics of how the dungeon works, and some very funny physical comedy. Among many other traits.

To save on food costs.

I'm very pleased that Takeda Naoki and Trigger have maintained Kui Ryouko's character design philosophy.

Every character is immediately recognizable from their eyes alone.
