Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei novels have been licensed by Yen Press

Yen Press (Yen On) has announced that they've licensed the Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei Light Novels. This thread can be used to discuss this news, and information up to and after the release begins.

I would also like to remind everyone that, as with all licensed works, it is no longer permissible to link to or discuss any unofficial translations. You may still discuss what happens in the recent novels (and we will still create threads for recent novel volumes as they come out), but you may not discuss how to unofficially read them in English whether in a public thread, in social groups, or even by private message on this site.

LKK 2015-03-09 12:16

Yen On also said in a different tweet that release for the first volume is expected in October 2015.

Edit: Yen Press also announced that it has licensed "the manga" but hasn't specified which spin-off manga it has. [Source] The appropriate thread(s) will be updated when further information is available.

YP is shite and it'll take them at least 7 years to catch up, just as it did with Spice and Wolf. Literally the worst thing that could happen. Next thing you know baka-tsuki will take down translations and we will get nothing more.

Crap, I didn't realize Yen Press takes so long to release stuff. This is not good, not good at all.

Sagitta Luminis 2015-03-09 13:01

I just saw it on Yen Press' Twitter.

amtro 2015-03-09 13:05

Spice and Wolf ended in 2011 and Yen Press picked it up in early 2009. Guess what, they're still releasing volumes, they're on 14 out of 17 to be precise with vol 14 due in April of this year. So yeah, it's not 7 years just yet, but it will get there.

Someone do a back up of all volumes?

We need more than that. We have to track down the short stories too and archive them, because if not those will be lost forever once the C&Ds start rolling out. Because YP never translates side materials.

No news as to which manga series (if not all of them) has been licensed.

bakato 2015-03-09 13:30

Yen Press you are seriously beginning to scare me.

kyuudere 2015-03-09 13:46

We can't discuss the raw spoiler or unofficial translation til Yen Press release the first volume and the rest ?

amtro 2015-03-09 13:48

No point. If these rules are enforced here then we will have no choice but to find a new place to discuss mahouka.

Tohyama Reki 2015-03-09 13:50

Whelp. This just made a somewhat ok day turn completely on its head.

GG, WP Yen Press

Edit: How many SS are there? We really do need to find them as Amtro said.

You mean the SS that are buried somewhere in the archives? I'm on it people.

IceHism 2015-03-09 14:02

Wow, and i thought we were safe since Oreimo was never licensed.

I think the difference is simply the lengths in which both of the LNs went with implied who-gets-with-who. I don't think Western readers would appreciate Oreimo since it went further than Mahouka has.

If you want to help just remind me what the stories were about. I only remember two. The Halloween party and Leo's SS.

In other words, you can talk about the contents of any volume as much as you like. Spoilers and summaries are fair game. What you can't talk about is where to find / read the raws or the translations themselves.

There's a Leo SS? I remember the SS with Mayumi visiting the siblings home and the Halloween party but I never said translations, only summaries.

There is the recent Mahouka X SAO crossover, though I doubt this one will disappear.

I found the Mayumi SS Summary:

Spoiler for Mayumi SS Summary:

Other than that, I'll start looking around as well. If I remember anything or find it, I'll be sure to mention it.

bakato 2015-03-09 14:17

Alright. Found them. Made a PDF. Now what?

Actually. Here. Just take it.

Take discussion on the finding and compilation of the LN volumes and short stories to jcafe novel shoppu's mahouka thread. That kind of discussion is no longer accepted here. We have to act fast and be careful.

Fine. I just finished saving everything of importance. Let's change the topic.

Anyone wanna b*tch about the awful job YP is gonna do translating all the infodump? I'm willing to bet they'll use "psyons"
