That was an okay episode, a little bit too fast for my taste and the animation took a hit this time if we compare it to previous episodes where the animation was acceptable. We're close to the last episode and after that just wait for accel anime and then railgun.

Kuroageha 2019-03-29 11:53

Yeah animation was a bit less compared to before.

Also that Fate/Stay in the kitchen reference :heh:.

Unfortunately for the author, Japanese isn't a super-common language everyone around the world speaks.

But I do like the running joke of constantly introducing new (throw-away) characters.

I don't know what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting Birdway's voice to be the way it is (and what has been heard cannot be unheard). That being said it's growing on me.

SilverGlavenus 2019-03-31 11:02

For someone who does not read the novel like me, this season sucks so much ass.

What makes it suck?

○ Too jumpy
○ Lack of exposition/feeling that they're cutting/flying through content
○ etc

Pretty much like you said:

- Subpar animations compared to previous seasons.
- Characters appearing out of nowhere and has little to no screen time, like the two other English princesses, the French Maiden, Aiwass ....
- Lack of exposition and explanations, so much so that it makes some scenes cringy, like the scenes where the Queen of England said something about heroes and the people then follows her.
- and more ...

Honestly, I'm gonna wait for Railgun, it has much better plot pace and solid animation throughout, and it focuses on only one heroine, rather than 3 different perspectives like this season.

To expand on this, it really feels like they just have a checklist of what they want to make sure gets shown, and are just jumping between those to check them off and move on to the next one.

It's the kind of thing I'd expect from a series that had multiple seasons recently released, was in a "dull" season but important for plot, and had another season on the way. Not something that's been off the air for a decade with nothing lined up afterwards.

Did Hamazura really just unload a full Kalashnikov mag into that Equ Dark Matter guy's ass...

All they needed to do to fix this season was to actually portray the story fully instead of showing main scenes in a disjointed manner

On the plus side, Hyouka and Levinia looked good, yay

Wandering Soul 2019-04-04 15:32

^The screenwriter himself apparently referred to this season as glorified highlight reel and it shows.

Except for the small fact Railgun straight up skips plots which you have to go back to read the LN series in order to fill the holes and understand what's going on and then we have the parade of retcons

SilverGlavenus 2019-04-07 04:38

^That maybe the case, but for non readers like me, the plot was more than serviceable, heck, I enjoy them more than the main series.

Kuroageha 2019-04-07 13:29

The manga straight up tells you read he novels as it proceeds to skip the story though :heh:.

The Railgun manga is an essential part of the main story, nowhere was it stated to be a separate universe or continuity. It is your own fault if you don't want to follow the main series to keep up to date.

That supposed "spin off" (it is in quotes because it isn't) is not like the other LN spin offs made to please a certain waifus fanbase when she doesn't end ip beong tje main girl, again, Railgun is part of the main series and follows it's continuity to a T and has essential information to fill in some of the blanks on the series.

If you want an example of a true spin off in the series that is outside of continuity then there is the Love Letter and Idol Accelerator spin offs.

Is this meant for me and not SilverGlavenus? Because you're just repeating what I already said :eyebrow:.
That's as bad as skipping the first OT novels despite knowing how the studio rolls with adaptations.
