Manga and Light Novel Discussion Forum Rules and Guidelines

Welcome to our Manga and Light Novel Discussion Forum. Here you'll find discussion focused on the wonderful world of literature. Just remember to observe our Forum Rules and the general rules outlined below, before posting. Enjoy!

Manga and Light Novel Discussion Forum Rules and Guidelines

1. Do not post links to, of, or mention where to find, scans of licensed manga and novels.
This includes fan-translations and raws of any licensed manga or novel. You may, however, point to ways of buying legal manga and novels. Requests for links to licensed material and any attempts to post licensed content will be deleted, and infractions will be issued to the users involved.
2. Do not post large amounts of translations.
We aren't a translation site. We don't mind someone asking for clarification on a panel or page of an unlicensed manga or novel, but repeated requests can lead to entire translations being posted and these are not allowed. Please note that any translation requests for licensed manga or novels are forbidden.
3. Do not hotlink images directly from another site.
Please upload the image to a public hosting site such as ImageShack or Photobucket. In addition, please use thumbnails for large images. Hiding large images behind spoiler tags does not prevent users from loading the images when they click to view the forum page, and it still stretches the page when the spoiler tag is clicked. Please be courteous and use thumbnails as much as possible.
4. Do not ignore our Spoiler Policy.
Show some consideration for your fellow community members and use spoiler tags when appropriate. Just like our Anime discussions, Manga and Light Novel discussions are required to follow our Spoiler Policy. We understand that translations can lag behind original language (raw) content and that it can be difficult to keep events from being spoiled so we merely ask that you use some basic courtesy and use the spoiler tag when discussing any newly released material and major events (such as deaths or new characters).
5. Do not allow comparisons to drag threads off-topic or into spoiler territory.
Discussion of novels and manga can naturally lead to comparisons between the source material and other forms of media (for instance, when the anime differs from the manga or novel). This sort of discussion is encouraged, but we draw the line when people post spoilers or derail the thread with discussion of other forms of media. Please restrict your comparisons to things that have already happened in the form of media the thread is discussing and stay on-topic.

Manga Forum Posting Guidelines

Before creating a new thread in the Manga forum, please check to see if an existing thread isn't already available. In general, we prefer there to be only one thread for each series, so do not create a new thread if one is already present. Please search to see if there is an existing thread you could make your post. We prefer that topics are grouped together since it helps maintain focus, doesn't clutter up the forum and avoids having the same questions being asked and answered time and time again.

Also remember that the Manga forum is for discussing specific released manga series.
Please do not use this forum to make the following type of threads or posts.
  • Do not ask when the next chapter is going to be scanned/released (the Do NOT ask when the next episode will be released! thread also applies to manga/novel translations).
  • No "favourite", "best" or "Top 10" type threads (if you must, find an appropriate thread in the General Anime forum and post there).
  • No manga suggestions or recommendation requests (use the Suggestions forum for such requests).
  • No manga "identification" threads or posts (use the Anime/Manga/Game Identification Help thread instead).
  • No download or playback questions (contact the group or site where you obtained the release).
Only post in this forum if you wish to specifically discuss the manga in question.

We appreciate that some threads of the above nature already exist in the Manga forum but we would prefer no new threads on such topics are created. In most cases we are not stopping you from making such posts or threads, it's just that the Manga forum isn't the place for them.

Policy for Franchises with both Manga and Light Novel Editions
  1. In cases where there are both Manga and Light Novel versions of the same property but no sub-forum for the franchise, we will allow separate Manga and Light Novel threads to be created in the existing "Manga & Light Novels" forum.
  2. In these cases, the start of the thread title should indicate either "[Manga]" or "[Light Novel]".
  3. The normal rules about spoilers within an adaptation will apply, which is to say that future events in that adaptation/medium are inappropriate spoilers and should be directed to the thread for the source. Future events from the novel would be inappropriate in the manga thread, and vice-versa.
  4. Regarding threads already created that cover both the manga and light novel adaptations of a franchise ("legacy threads"), we would prefer to keep things going as they have been. But if you have a compelling reason to believe that a thread should be split, please first contact a member of the staff to explain the situation. The staff will then decide if a split is warranted.
  5. When creating threads for new franchises, please consider whether there is a significant risk that one medium will spoil another. (For example, if the manga is licensed or being scanlated, but the novels are not available in English.) We do not require one approach or the other, but we do require all forum members to be considerate about inappropriate spoilers at all times.
