KanColle Kai (PS Vita)

The Vita version's site is updated with new information. God knows how many people are checking it; it gives me 503 one after another, and it only goes worse with time.

All of those delays for a game that is akin to a smartphone game. I don't know what the hell Kadokawa staff members were thinking.
Might be better in practice, but the battle gameplay screenshots are really not appealing.

Academus 2016-01-28 08:21

I'm getting a strong Endless Space vibe on the tactical command thing. We'll get to select a few actions (cards in ES) which modify the fleet's behavior and provide buffs to different stats, and then we'll sit back and watch as the auto-resolved battle unfold.

My pre-order from 7 months ago is finally going to be shipped. Goddamn.

Estavali 2016-01-28 11:28

The part about developing rapport with our flagship seems like a galgame element. One might even go a bit further and suggest that KDKW took a page from Warship Girls' Affection system :heh:

Though to be honest, I like the idea, or any idea that would allow the kanmusu that has served her TTK loyally to stand out from her clones.

Is it terrible for me that your mention of it got me stuck into trying to digest everything on the opening post quickly to find the bit related to what you said? :heh:

New info available from http://kancolle.doorblog.jp

The game is designed with multiple playthrough in mind.
Two ways to start a new playthrough: Kai start, and Classic start +.
Kai start allows to you pick the starting flagship from Sendai, Jintsuu and Naka, while Classic start + allows you to pick from the original five, Mutsuki, Shigure and Ooshio.
Event maps are included.
Combat animation can be skipped.
Strategic points are used to expand docks and dorm.
It's easier to level kanmusus compare to in browser.
Maximum fleet count is eight.

Japanese review: http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs...16_743163.html
In a nutshell: it feels different and still has content to deliver.

Some actual footage from someone who got the game already:
http://yusaani.com/special/2016/02/16/268686/

Live2d like animations aren't too bad (on imuya at least). The way how they animated static sprites is a bit... awkward. Not because of the animation itself but rather how the pose remains the same anyway. It is even more obvious with equipments and planes moving around in a weird fashion.

Also, the circles with colored rings and numbers are merely hp, and not something you could expect like... a mobage/QTE. That said, I wish they didn't go with that silly and bland interface style for menus and fights.

LoweGear 2016-02-15 23:38

So how long till we see who the mystery shipgirl is?

Academus 2016-02-16 03:54

Judging by the list of trophies:

1. It's Iowa.
2. There're five difficulty levels; a "historical" difficulty beyond "Kou".
3. There're seventeen areas for you to capture; one of them is apparently a canal.
4. Marriage is in, polygamy unconfirmed.

In addition, I heard it already got DLCs, and you can save scum your construction attempts.

Sheba 2016-02-16 04:07

oh right, her name is in Katakana. Ready your ship slots Admirals!

AC-Phoenix 2016-02-16 04:11

And there I was looking forward to missouri :/ - Oh well maybe we will get 2 ships after all - although there is no indication as of yet.

Sheba 2016-02-16 04:13

Wait, months ago, were you wanting Iowa Or Iowa-class? Make up your mind lol.

Ithekro 2016-02-16 06:41

Truth? I want to see Enterprise.

But one American ship potently leads the way to many, many Allied ships from around the world.

And drama or course.

An interesting note...unlike all the other ships in the game so far (to my knowledge), all the Iowa-class battleships still exist on the surface. None of the four were sunk or scrapped. Of the last pair, Illinois was cancelled and Kentucky eventually cancelled and scrapped after donating its bow to Wisconsin. Kentucky's engines were donated to the fast combat support ships Sacramento and Camden.

Sheba 2016-02-18 09:19

That said, having seen someone playing the game on twitch, the game in its combat mode look hilariously cheap. To put it generously.its like watching barely animated cardboard cutots shooting at each other. Its not exciting battle dynamics that will sell KC Kai but its management and waifuist aspects.

Cyprene 2016-02-18 11:35

This game's great!
I was worried from the reviews, but I'm having a wonderful time with it so far.

The battles are a lot more enjoyable than regular KanColle because you can actually see your opponents as opposed to just getting 1 second glimpses of them. And I love going back and rediscovering all my old girls. Instead of, "Oh, I drew yet another Fusou. Time to go dismantle." It's "Yay, I got a battleship!"

I do worry a bit about the idea of the Abyssals counterattacking, though. Is this some kind of XCOM thing, where you've only got a limited number of turns before the enemy comes crashing into your base and you lose?

AC-Phoenix 2016-02-18 15:38

my bet goes to the first Iowa screencaps appearing within the first week, considering how we have people with lv 99 ships after just a few days even in normal Kancolle.

I am fully with Ithetkro here, first and foremost I'd prefer Enterprise. ;) - I generally wanted American ships though.

Why drama?

Ithekro 2016-02-18 16:05

I wouldn't expect the Allied ships to get along at first with the Axis ships. There was a lot of blood between them. It might get washed over due to them having a common enemy, or the war being something their humans did, not the spirits of the ships. But the three main carrier divisions are going to have some memories of the likes of Enterprise. Certain British ships would have memories as well.

Oh you meant drama between the ships. - yeah that is indeed pre-programmed.
:heh:
Sorry, I thought you meant player base drama.

Ithekro 2016-02-18 16:28

There might be player drama as well, be that would be different from what I was on about.

Apparently there is a bug, a huge one. If you get a game over, your game will crash resulting in deleting your save file...

Well played Kadokawa, well played... :heh:

Cyprene 2016-02-19 00:15

That hasn't been confirmed fake, but no one's been able to replicate the bug. I wouldn't worry about it.

If it's made up I hope that uploader finds himself facing a nasty, nasty lawsuit.

Master Assassin 2016-02-19 02:46

I was watching a player's livestream and they opened Amazon to read what the reviews have to say about the game...

Well, turns out reading the review was a mistake as the guy says. :heh:

Spoiler:

Ithekro 2016-02-20 03:22

Oh

Spoiler for :

Myssa Rei 2016-02-20 05:17

Technically she's listed as "Central Hime", but yeah, this is basically the personification of Pearl Harbor itself.

And not only that, it looks like it's a full-blown invasion of the West Coast:

http://i.imgur.com/fF3cNyE.png

Sheba 2016-02-20 05:23

Oh by the way, as reported, defeating the Hime will complete the game. However, it will also open NG+.

Quote:

Long story short is, once you beat the Central Hime and all the Central Water Operations the game will be complete and you can then access new game+ but there's a catch....

You can choose to keep only 20 of your ships girls.....and they can be... your 20 highest leveled ship girls.... or your 20 highest leveled locked ship girls.

So if you're going to go for the goal and aim for Iowa, plan who want to keep, cause not all the ship girls are coming with you in the "New Game+"
Can you hear Tanaka laughing at yall already?

Any news of USS Iowa? Please post its official artwork

I wonder if we will get something similar in the web game since they are running out of operations

The game isn't running out of operations -- it's running out of ships. Operations, especially unrealized operations, are something that the IJN has a lot of. See this season's Rei-Go? Yeah.

Klashikari 2016-02-20 12:08

It is very unlikely the game will run out of ships anyway, unless you implied "varied IJN ships that aren't DD or SS". IJN capital ships "reserve" is pretty much exhausted, save a few like Shinano, but there are still many DD and SS.

Since they even went as far as including USN ships after 3 years, they can prolong the game life for 2-3 years with just the foreign nations already accounted. If we add british and french ships, they will most likely end the game even before they really run out of ships anyway.

Myssa Rei 2016-02-20 12:26

Incidentally, the triple turrets on Central Hime point to her not only being the personification of Pearl Harbor, but the USS Arizona too. Hmm.

And when I said running out of ships, I meant the "big ships" of the IJN. We're pretty much down to trophy DDs and subs from this point on barring Shinano.

They could even do more if the devs finally decided to go "screw sticking to just WWII" and introduce, for example, a reincarnation system that lets kanmusu to be reborn in their modern incarnations :heh:

This makes me want a map/stage based on Bikini Atoll, which each node manned by one or more Abyssalised and nuclear-contaminated/mutated kanmusu, and with a moe anthropomorphised Godzilla as the last boss there. Never mind if the place has nothing to do with the Pacific War, except for it being another mass ship grave. Come on, KDKW, you can do it! >=3
