It's out on RandomC, a site which in my opinion is not exactly long for the future, given how only one writer (and Guardian Enzo, of all people...) is still regularly posting reviews. But that is a pretty bleak prediction, I hope I'm wrong. In any case, let's see if the spring is still overstuffed with watcheable shows like the last year or so has been, or if we get a bit of a breather season, after some of the best shows in years (
Sousou no Frieren and
Apothecary Diaries) have now ended.
Tensei shitara Dainana Ouji Datta node, Kimama ni Majutsu wo Kiwamemasu: Quasi-isekai show, where a way too OP and way too young protagonist runs around with lots of older women. Erm... okay. One episode, because sometimes those shows turn out way better than the boring preview would indicate.
Ookami to Koushinryou: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf: Oh, hey, a remake of
Spice and Wolf, a series which for reasons I never watched. This has my interest, so three episodes.
Dekisokonai to Yobareta Moto Eiyuu wa, Jikka kara Tsuihou Sareta no de Suki Katte ni Ikiru Koto ni Shita: Y'know, with the ridiculous length of anime titles based upon light novels or web novels and that length growing each year, I wonder if some year in the future we'll get the entire novel in the title alone.
Anyway, blabla hero who wants the slow life, blabla OP powers, bla harem bla. One episode.
Lv2 kara Cheat datta Motoyuusha Kouho no Mattari Isekai Life: I rage a bit at my more cynical friends in real life for being so down on entertainment which competently tells well-known stories, i.e. super hero movies and such. However, even I am burned out on mediocre isekai and this looks just like such. One episode.
Re:Monster: And another isekai, where the MC starts out as a goblin, gets power through eating (Monsters? People? Just food?) and of course a harem, etc. One episode. So far the season is mostly really boring premises...
Maou no Ore ga Dorei Elf wo Yome ni Shitanda ga, Dou Medereba Ii?: Ah, yes, the other staple of Japanese fantasy. SLAVERY! Fucks sake, Japan. One episode.
Yozakura-san Chi no Daisakusen: A spy show with, um. Wacky characters? One episode.
Jii-san Baa-san Wakagaeru: Hm, old couple wakes up to be young again. I guess that's an interesting concept. Two episodes.
Tensei Kizoku, Kantei Skill de Nariagaru: Humdidum, another isekai. At least this one has a semi-interesting premise, with the MC not being OP (at least from the description) and having to work through the allies he makes. Two episodes.
Mushoku Tensei II: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu 2nd Cour: Well, yeah. Best anime of the season found. Of course picked up, just like volume 26 of the light novel which arrived here in my home last week. ^^
THE NEW GATE: Huh, it's SOA "if Kirito was then transported into the real fantasy world 500 years into the future". Well, at least that
sounds interesting to look at. Two episodes. Man, I remember how much better SOA got when Kirito was in a coma for a full season...
There's a fuckton of second or third season of shows which never really pulled me in but were quite or even hugely popular with other people, so I
guess for them it's a full season once again. But as for me... I'm good having two shows I think I'm bound to love (
Mushoku Tensei is a given, the
Spice and Wolf remake sounds like I'll love it) and a lot of stuff I'm ambivalent to outright contemptful about. I guess we'll see.
What are your interesting shows in spring 2024?
