Well, this season for some reason passed very quickly. The upcoming Spring 2023 season looks a bit meager, all in all, compared to the giant feast we got the last season. Lots of standard isekai, some sequels people may or not may care about, some of the usual stuff I zone out completely. Let's see what's interesting to me, personally:
Tengoku Daimakyou: So, despite Guardian Enzo's best attempts to make the preview illegible to normal people (the guy is so much up his own ass at this point that he clearly doesn't care anymore about doing what he's supposed to do:
a preview of the show), this looks interesting. Some sci-fi, some dystopia, and so on. Two episodes to find out if its any good.
Yamada-kun to Lv999 no Koi o Suru: Huh, gamer romance. Well, aren't we chasing the white elephant? One episode to see if it's charming.
Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu: Fuck's sake, Enzo. Another unreadable preview. Yeah, one episode, convince me, show.
Tensei Kizoku no Isekai Boukenroku: Jichou o Shiranai Kamigami no Shito: Hoh, there's the first isekai. Two episodes, the premise looks at least mildly interesting.
Alice Gear Aegis Expansion: Oh, no.... it's a "girls as mecha" show.
Well, aside from Gundam, which I'm excited for, this near-passes for mecha, so I guess one or two episodes...?
Konosuba S2 (or S3?): For those who care. Wooo.....
Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudou: Hum. Cultist gets sacrificed and isekai'd? I mean, yeah. That's a premise. One episode.
Watashi no Yuri wa Oshigoto Desu!: <snicker> "Yuri is my job"? Really? Okay, one episode to at least see if there's anything interesting here.
Isekai de Cheat Skill o Te ni Shita Ore wa, Genjitsu Sekai o mo Musou Suru: Level Up wa Jinsei o Kaeta: Okay... dude is isekai'd, but comes back with OP hax powers. I guess that's the teenage version of Isekai Uncle? Yeah, two episodes. Why not. The premise is at least interesting.
Yuusha ga Shinda!: Hum. Again. Comedy and fantasy seldomly really mix well (see: Konosuba, at least for me), so I'm pretty skeptical. Well, one episode it gets.
Isekai One Turn Kill Nee-san: Ane Douhan no Isekai Seikatsu Hajimemashita: Ah, yeah. The wimp hero and his OP sister. I can dig that. Two episodes. ^^
Dead Mount Death Play: Huh, reverse isekai. These normally end up very interesting (see Hataraku Maou-sama and Re:Creators), so I'm going to definitely check this one out in detail. Three episodes.
Mahou Shoujo Magical Destroyers: Um, okay. Again, again. The premise is pretty much off the wall, however this seems to take itself seriously, contrary to, for example, Shimoneta? I don't know. One episode to check it out.
Edomae Elf: Otaku elf poses as a shrine deity for the lulz? What would Tolkien have thought!
Yeah, one episode.
Isekai Shoukan wa Nidome Desu: And ANOTHER isekai with a at least interesting premise. Which is all the genre has left at this point, I guess, aside from super good shows like Mushoku Tensei, who just excel at storytelling. Well, two episodes, I guess.
Kidou Senshi Gundam: Suisei no Majo: Tomato hand returns!
Yeah, automatic pick-up, it is a glorious mecha show with 2D really well animated mecha. Let's see how the drama continues, though, I fear we are getting the big trauma typical Gundam shit with senseless deaths coming up pretty soon now. Or maybe, just maybe, they'll write against expectations, to the surprise and dismay of the Gundam regulars. <crosses fingers>
Kimetsu no Yaiba: Katanakaji no Sato Hen: Y'know, I really should watch the first two seasons. The animation seems pretty glorious...
Kanojo ga Koushaku-tei ni Itta Riyuu: Yay, another villainess anime! I have really come to like the genre, for whatever reason. Well, it's pretty clear they'll stomp it into the ground with too many show, but so far I am enjoying the ride. Two episodes.
The Marginal Service: Alright, this one is clearly too over the top for me, but I still am going to check out at least part of the first episode. So, yeah, one half episode.
Oshi no Ko: By the guy who did Kaguya-sama and clearly not a comedy show. Still, I got high hopes, so three episodes, I guess?
So, yeah. One sure pick-up, a few quite interesting shows, some of them on the strength of their premise alone and a metric shit-ton of "Eeeeeh... maybe?" shows. 18 shows in total again. I'm not sure if we'll get this many shows forever now every season, because it is quickly becoming a bit oppressive.
Anyway, season review for the last season is upcoming in a few days. But I'm cautiously optimistic that there will be at least some unexpected gems here in this lot.
